Our Story

Nepalese Literary Society of Calgary (NLSC)

The Nepalese Literary Society of Calgary was founded in response to the growing Nepali community in Alberta and the shared desire to preserve Nepali literary heritage while fostering creative expression in a multicultural environment.

Recognizing literature as a powerful medium for cultural identity, dialogue, and social connection, a group of dedicated writers, thinkers, and community leaders came together to establish an organization that would:

  • Create a platform for Nepali writers, poets, and artists
  • Encourage literary discussion, learning, and collaboration
  • Support cultural continuity for future generations

Since its establishment, the Society has functioned with transparency, accountability, and inclusivity. Guided by its bylaws.

Message from the Founder President

Dear Friends and Supporters, It gives me immense pride to reflect on the journey of the Nepalese Literary Society of Calgary. What began as a shared vision among a few passionate individuals has grown into a meaningful platform for literary expression and cultural connection within our community. From the very beginning, our goal was clear: to create a space where ideas could flourish, voices could be heard, and Nepali literature could thrive beyond geographical boundaries. Literature not only preserves our heritage but also strengthens our sense of belonging and mutual understanding. The Society’s strength lies in its members—writers, readers, volunteers, and supporters—who continue to contribute their time, creativity, and dedication. I sincerely thank everyone who has supported the Society and upheld its values with integrity and commitment. As we move forward, I am confident that the Nepalese Literary Society of Calgary will continue to inspire, educate, and unite our community through the power of words and ideas. With warm regards, Founder President Nepalese Literary Society of Calgary
